Here’s an up close and personal interview with Joe. See what Joe has to say about Charles Rutenberg and the real estate market…and what you can apply to your business so everyone can grow together!
How has your company adapted to the changing marketplace? One of the things Pam and I do on a regular basis is to take a moment to really analyze today’s market while looking down the road to see what’s coming our way. It’s how we started Charles Rutenberg. We realized real estate couldn’t go on like it used to forever as Agents work hard to earn their commission. So we brought 100% commission to New York. Its progressive thinking and its how we continue to run our business. We’ve grown to 1300 agents and 6 locations because of this very thinking.
What is your competitive differentiation? We are always developing new programs to provide additional sources of income to Agents. With that said, we are the first company on Long Island to recently open a full-service short sale division. Our Agents can now get the short sale listing with confidence knowing they can sell the home without having to be involved in the frustrating, long-term process. We have a team of professionals who do all the negotiating and legal work to protect our agents’ commission. All agents need to do is get the listing and pick up their check.
What are today’s real estate consumers most concerned with? With all the changes the housing market has undergone in the past decade, consumers have become more cautious. I think they are MOST concerned with honesty. After all, they are making one of the biggest transactions of a lifetime. They also want a knowledgeable and professional agent.
How are you retaining your top producing agents? Communication is key. That’s why my door is always open and I’m only a phone call away. I am a hands-on broker and keep open and honest relationships with agents so they continue to succeed. With that said, we also provide them with the right tools such as: listing presentation tools, lots of training on all topics.
What do you think today’s agents need to focus on in order to succeed? In order to be successful you have to stick to it! They need to have a game-plan and follow it. That involves structure, a strong work habit, repetition and consistency.
What are your plans for continuing to grow the company? I am always open to new opportunities that will provide more income for our agents. It’s all about the agents, that’s why we keep opening new branch offices and have recently created a commercial division and a full-service short sale division. The more we grow, the more our agents can grow too.
What kinds of media are you using to promote market and grow CRRLI? We use a mix of everything. I believe every marketing venue has its place and when used in the right capacity, produces results. We advertise extensively on the Internet. We use print, trade association publications, television, email marketing, website, mobile marketing.
What is the key to a successful life in real estate? I am sure you have heard the expression “Everything in moderation.” There must be a balance between your personal life and your professional life. Yet, there must be structure to all of this. In real estate you must have structure such as following a program, attending seminars and training.
